Department Activities

 

During the academic year 2008-09 the activities of the History Department began with the third phase of the project, ‘Mapping Siri’. The Hauz Khas area was taken up for study. The students of History (Hons.) 2nd and 3rd year visited the area in November 2008 and did a case study of the entire Hauz Khas Complex which comprises Hauz-i-Alai (a reservoir built by Alauddin Khalji), Madarsa Firoz Shahi, Tomb of Firoz Shah Tughlaq and a few monuments of Lodi era.

 

In the month of December 2008, the 1st year History (Hons.) students visited the National Museum to get a feel of our rich heritage. The students of Political Science, Hindi, Psychology (Hons.) participated in a heritage walk to Chandni Chowk, Jama Masjid and the lesser known monuments of Mehrauli Archaeological Park in the month of January and February 2009.

 

On 20th February 2009 Prof. Arvind Sinha of JNU delivered a lecture-cum-slide show on the topic ‘Hitler and Nazism’ for the History (Hons.) students. Ten Days That Shook the World, a feature film on the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917 was shown to the 2nd year History (Hons.) students.

 

Over the year, the students of the department also put up interesting wall papers on themes like mughal painting, medieval women bhaktas etc.

 

For the current academic session Monika Besoya of 1st year, Shivani Dhasmana of 2nd year and Rinki of 3rd year were elected as class representatives for their respective classes by the History (Hons.) students.
