Report 2010-11

On behalf of Green Beans Society of Kamala Nehru College, two faculty members Dr Sarita Ghai and Mr. Rakesh Kr.Abhay along with Monika Paliwal, Harshita Guha and Geetika Yadav attended the 4th International Renewable Energy Conference and Exhibition, 2010 (IIREC, 2010) from 27th to 29th October, 2010 at held in New Delhi following Washington in 2008, Beijing in 2005 and Bonn in 2004. Conference was held for three days, on key technologies such as wind, solar, hydro, ocean, geothermal, and biomass/ biofuels/ waste energy. Discussions on clean technologies incorporating presentations on hydrogen, fuel cells, batteries and other energy storage technologies, transmission, smart grid distributed generation, energy efficiency, green building, etc.

During the college festival Ullas Green Beans invited Navdanya and World Wildlife Fund to participate and involve the students in their various programmes and activities.

As a part of our celebration of Wildlife and Biodiversity,Green Beans members went for an observation trip to Sultanpur/Dr. Salim Ali Wildlife Sanctuary in February 2011.

In the month of March 2011, Green Beans Society involved everyone to create awareness and ownership about the Earth Hour to turn their lights off for one hour and take a stand against climate change. On Saturday March 26th, Earth Hour 2011 became the biggest Earth Hour ever with over 135 countries taking part in the event.

From the Editor’s Desk…..

Warm welcome to all the Bean members.  This year we are here to share our views on Nurturing the Earth.Working on safeguarding our mother earth and transformation of polluted society into a greener, cleaner and healthier society has been the primary concern of this issue.

We had our Green Beans Orientation on 9^th August, 2011 which was supported by Navdanya, which is an organisation which practises healthy organic farming. They provided us with indigenous variety of seeds of many vegetables. Students with great enthusiasm and inquisitive minds learnt new seed plantation techniques and how to make new seeds.

Green beans along with their president Deepshikha participated in City Plants Million Trees under Monsoon campaign initiated by our Honourable Chief Minister Sheila Dixit. Under this campaign we distributed free saplings and seeds to the faculties and students. These saplings were also planted in our college campus.

Anti-Tobacco campaign was also one of the major concerns on which we focused. Students actively took part in the various competitions conducted.

The students also showed their sparkling spirit in attending the workshop on Rainwater Harvesting.  

We would like you to support in this noble cause of protecting the natural heritage. Let’s join hands in this effort and make earth a better to live in.
