Report 2010-11 Faculty Convener- Ms. Sanam Khanna
The Debating Society of Kamala Nehru College provides a forum for developing public speaking and debating skills among the students. The team comprises enthusiastic and committed debators who help train and develop the talent of newcomers. The first inter college debate ‘First Words’ is held in conjunction with the Journo-Junction. During the college festival ‘ULLAS’ the Debsoc host the Haidei Rao Memorial Debate. There is an enthusiastic response from students of all the three years and may of the post-graduate students also join in from time to time. Their skills are manifested in the recognition and prizes they have won during various college festivals. 1. The 2010-2011 session commenced with the first round of auditions on August 12th, followed by the second round on 17th. 2. Supriya Shukla and Konica Kapoor participated in the annual Tantra debate at Hindu on September 14th. 3. JIMS Debate on September 15th where Konica Kapoor, our newest member bagged the first prize. 4. Radhika Chaturvedi took part in Fresher's Debate at LSR on 15th September. 5. Informal student parliamentary workshop between Deshbandhu College and Kamala Nehru College on September 20th. 6. JMC's economics department hosts a debate on 23rd September where Mrinalini Khattar participated. 7. Journo Junction on the 22nd Sept witnessed a sweeping victory where Ankita Chandan won Best Speaker, Priyanka Rajan and Ankita won Best Team and Mrinalini Khattar bagged the Best Interjector prize. 8.Konica Kapoor took part in the Fresher's Debate at IP College on the 24th September. (The topic being- 'This house suffers from memory loss' ) 9. KNC's economics fest Ecophoria held an MUN that witnessed Shina Gulati as the Chair.
10. Priyanka Rajan won best speaker at JMC's debate ''THB that aid sanctioned by international agencies aimed at economic development of developing countries needs reforms'' on Sept 25th. 11. Priyanka Rajan, Ankita Chandan, Ankita Deb, Mariyam Raza Haider, Supriya Shukla and Shina Gulati participated in regional debating at BITS Pilani Goa from 14th to 16th October and made it to the quarter-finals. 12. A team of 6, including Priyanka Rajan, Ankita Chandan, Mariyam Raza, Apranta, Supriya Shkula and Shina Gulati won the second prize at the Presidential Trivia event 'Rock With The Presidents' organized by the Embassy of the United States of America (with the American Center) on the 20th of October. Between January to March Radhika Chaturvedi participated in- - SRCC Debating festival( Conventional)-February 2010 - Kirori Mal College Economics fest debate- March 2010 And won accolades in- - Ullas- Best team- February 2010 - Kirori Mal College Commerce fest debate- 2nd best speaker- february 2010 Tulika Singhal won the AD Shrouff elocution, KNC, bagging the first prize Shatarupa Chakraborty was the 3rd best speaker, and bagged the best team prize with Radhika Chaturvedi at Ullas Festival. - Won best interjector at IP College For Women, Commerce fest - Best Speaker at the Psychology Fest Extempore Konica Kapoor participated in several debates including Jesus and Mary College, IP College and won best interjector award at Daulat Ram. Ankita Chandan participated in Keshav Mahavidyalaya, SRCC and Miranda House Parliamentary Debate(Dialectics) as Adjudicator.
Report 2011-12 Faculty Convener- Ms. SanamKhanna Student Convener- AnkitaChandan Crossfire has had a busy and energizing year. We organized a fresher’s training workshop at the end of Sept 2010 to help new members get accustomed to different debating styles. Members took part in many debates and group discussions through the year. This year we also participated in Model United Nation meets and had great success. PriyankaRajan won the 2nd position at the Commerce Fest at Kamala Nehru College in October 2011. Mehak Mittal bagged the 1st position in the Group Discussion at Ecophoria 2010 at Kamala Nehru while ShinaGulati also chaired the Model United Nations during Ecophoria. SupriyaShukla had a very successful year, winning many laurels for Crossifre. She won the 2nd position at the St. Stephen’s Declamation in December 2010, and the 1st position at the Kamala Nehru Commerce Department Group Discussion. She also won the Group Discussion competitions at Gargi College and Sri Venketeswara College. At the Kamala Nehru Psychology Fest, ShatarupaChakraborty won Best Speaker. She was also adjudged the Third Best Individual Speaker at the Kamala Nehru Annual Fest 2010, along with being judged the best Interjector during Indraprastha College Commerce Fest 2010. Apart from these, RadhikaChaturvedi won 2nd prize at the Kirori Mal College annual debate in Dec 2010 and Radhika and Shatrupa were declared the best team at Kamala Nehru annual debate during Ullas 2010. In September 2011, the new academic session started auspiciously for Crossfire,withRaveesha Gupta and ShreyaDeora being declared the second best team at the prestigious and fiercely competitive JIMS annual debate. Our freshers also won accolades; Ankur Dang and Dhanya also won the best team at College of Business Studies freshers' debate in September 2011.
